1920s VINTAGE IVORY LINEN MENS ARTIST'S SHIRT/JACKET BARON ADOLPH de MEYER ESTATE ATTRIBUTED TO LANVIN
1920's ivory linen artist's salon shirt/jacket. Back in the 80's we were called by an antique dealer who had just purchased a storage unit that had been in the family of the world famous photographer Baron Adolph de Meyer. They had purchased the photographs and offered his Lanvin clothing to us. De Meyer was the preferred photographer for LANVIN advertisements in the 1920's. One of our clients back then was Peter Allen (of BI-COASTAL fame) to whom we sold all of The Baron's LANVIN suits. Peter was so excited to be able to purchase them because of their rich history and because he stepped right into them as if they'd been made for him. He wore the tuxedos & tails during his performances at that time. We did keep one piece after all these years and it is this shirt. We can provide no hard provenance, only the fond memory of the story of this exciting find.
This is a long shirt/jacket, in the artist's studio style. The shirt has a medium point collar, long sleeves with deep button cuffs. There is an applied button placket and the original mother-of-pearl buttons. There are self faced vents at the left and right side seams. The body of the shirt is cut from one large piece of linen. It is made with substantial fine quality weighty linen.
